Detailed Description
Mickey Mouse is a cartoon character created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks at The Walt Disney Studios. Mickey is an anthropomorphic mouse characterized as a cheerful, mischievous, and adventurous optimist with a heart of gold. He is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company and one of the most recognizable cartoon characters in the world. The first appearance of Mickey Mouse was in the short film Steamboat Willie (1928), one of the first sound cartoons. He went on to appear in over 130 films, including The Band Concert (1935), Brave Little Tailor (1938), and Fantasia (1940). Mickey also became the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. While Mickey’s initial design was created by Iwerks, his overall look and personality were developed by Disney. Mickey’s most commonly used catchphrases include “Oh boy!” “Hot dog!” and “That’s swell!” Mickey Mouse has been a source of inspiration for artists across mediums. Andy Warhol created a series of paintings featuring Mickey in the 1960s, while Roy Lichtenstein used the character in a pop art painting from 1964. More recently, street artist Banksy included Mickey in one of his pieces that critiqued the Walt Disney Company.
