Detailed Description

Lucian Freud was an English painter and one of the foremost exponents of the 20th-century school of figurative painting. His work is characterized by its intense realism and its depiction of the human form, often in a state of extreme psychological duress. Freud was born in Berlin in 1922, the son of an Austrian Jewish father and an English Jewish mother. He was educated in England, first at the Central School of Art and Design and later at the Slade School of Fine Art. He began his career as a painter in the 1940s, and his early work was influenced by surrealism and cubism. In the 1950s, Freud began to develop his own distinctive style, characterized by thick layers of paint and an emphasis on the physicality of the human body. His paintings often depict people in intimate and sometimes unflattering situations, such as nude portraits and scenes of people in psychotherapy. Freud’s work was extremely popular in the 1970s and 1980s, and he was one of the most highly regarded British artists of his generation. He died in London in 2011. Some of Freud’s most famous paintings include “Naked Girl With Egg” (1952), “Girl With a White Dog” (1951-52), “Self-Portrait With a Black Eye” (1963), and “Benefits Supervisor Sleeping” (1995).
