A closer look

The retained landscape shows dark framing trees, a pale distant mountain and a softly lit path beside water. Its gentle edges provide an atmospheric starting point rather than a literal sequence of ghosted frames.

Build the visual structure

Decide what the viewer must be able to locate: the path, doorway or outline of a figure. Keep that structure clear and let less important forms lose contrast. Blur alone is not enough; depth should also come from overlapping shapes, changes in value and the placement of sharper edges.

If adding an echo of movement, use one or two faint offsets rather than duplicating every object. Make the relationship between the main form and its trace legible. This is an illustrative treatment of memory or absence, not evidence of a supernatural event or a record of an actual exposure sequence.

A focused studio exercise

Draw a doorway in a misty room. Create three versions that preserve the frame, the opening or a small light source as the sharpest element; compare how the implied story changes.

Compare the studies at the same size and save the chosen prompt or process settings with each result. Keep the subject and viewing angle fixed during this test so the effect of the changed variable stays visible.
