AOI editorial concept · Political imagery and visual rhetoric
Gaddafiism is developed here as an AOI study of a highly staged persona: drapery expands, the figure interrupts the frame, and the microphone becomes a small fixed point inside a restless surface. The visual tension lies between theatrical presence and the apparatus that presents it.

Ochre, deep green and charcoal planes; asymmetrical drapery, a sharply readable portrait and an isolated microphone. Large fabric-like folds contrast with narrow architectural edges. The work studies a specific political persona, not a general aesthetic for Libya or its people.
A political subject, an artistic proposal
In this article, Gaddafiism names an original AOI editorial art concept associated with Muammar Gaddafi. The political name is used as a subject for visual inquiry, not presented as an established art-historical school. The aim is to examine how a public persona is framed through space, material, gesture and scale.
The United Nations’ record of the September 23, 2009 General Debate includes Muammar Al-Qadhafi’s address. It provides dated context for a public political performance. Recording that appearance does not validate claims made in the speech; AOI’s drapery, framing and palette remain artistic choices.
Give the surface a directional force
Let one broad fold cross the composition diagonally while the portrait remains upright. A small vertical microphone then supplies a stable comparison. Avoid making every surface equally dramatic: a quiet charcoal area allows the fabric-like movement to remain legible.
Costume-inspired shapes can identify a public persona, but should not become an inventory of exotic details. Use fewer, larger forms and preserve the face without grotesque ethnic caricature. The stage is invented and should remain visibly illustrative.
Look beyond the dominant figure
In a second study, remove the portrait and leave the microphone, drapery and empty chair. The remaining scale relationships reveal how much of the first image’s presence came from its setting. A third study can turn the viewpoint sideways to expose the support behind a large panel.
The concept is useful for examining the manufacture of an image. It should not glamorize a political record by substituting luxurious materials for historical context, nor invent an incident as though it were documentation. Keep the interpretation and the dated source distinct.
Read the images and test the idea
The featured illustration and collage are original AI-generated interpretations. Their settings are invented, and the images do not document actual events. The portrait identifies the subject; the surrounding geometry proposes a way to read political presentation. It should not be taken as evidence of a person’s motives or actions.
Make a second version without the portrait. If the composition still has a clear relationship between speaker, setting and viewer, the concept has a useful visual structure. If it becomes an assortment of decorative symbols, simplify the framing and scale before adding more detail. The jokes concern image-making and staging, rather than national, ethnic or religious identity.
A small poetic detour
Original words from the AOI studio.
Poetry
The cloth grows louder than the stand;
A shadow folds across the hand.
When all the sweeping folds are gone,
The little microphone stays on.
The prompt workshop
Original creative exercises. These prompts create new illustrations, not documentary evidence.
Start here · The setting without the speaker
Original AOI Gaddafiism editorial illustration: an isolated microphone and empty chair beneath one broad asymmetrical fabric canopy, visible edges of a theatrical set. Ochre, deep green, sand ivory and charcoal; tactile folded-paper print with restrained shadows. Strong hierarchy, readable negative space, tactile print texture and precise geometric edges. Invented setting, no portrait, campaign slogans, official seals, fake writing or signature.
Portrait · Persona and institution
Original AOI Gaddafiism editorial portrait of Muammar Gaddafi: a recognizable stylized portrait in a simple draped garment, surrounded by large angular folds and a small fixed microphone. Ochre, deep green, sand ivory and charcoal; tactile folded-paper print with restrained shadows. Recognizable stylized face, thoughtful balanced composition, visibly illustrative rather than documentary. No endorsement slogan, official emblem, false quotation or signature.
Experimental · Reveal the frame
Original AOI Gaddafiism experimental editorial study: a draped stage viewed from the side, revealing the support behind one oversized panel and a quiet empty foreground. Ochre, deep green, sand ivory and charcoal; tactile folded-paper print with restrained shadows. Contrast the apparent front with the visible construction of the scene, using light and spacing instead of written accusations. Clearly invented visual metaphor, no text or signature.
A smile from the studio
Jokes
The curtain requested its own microphone. It had been doing most of the dramatic work.
The empty chair finally got a close-up and said nothing perfectly.
