Detailed Description
Family Guy is an American animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series centers on the Griffins, a family consisting of parents Peter and Lois; their children, Meg, Chris, and Stewie; and their anthropomorphic pet dog, Brian. The show is set in the fictional city of Quahog, Rhode Island, and lampoons American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition. The series was originally pitched to Fox in 1998, following the cancellation of MacFarlane’s previous series, The Life of Larry and Steve. MacFarlane was hired by Fox after they watched a seven-minute pilot he made for them. The pilot was originally animated with traditional animation techniques, but after the success of The Simpsons in 1989, Fox decided to switch Family Guy to computer animation. The show debuted on January 31, 1999, and immediately became a commercial success. It was renewed for a second season, which began airing on September 23, 1999. The show quickly became one of Fox’s highest-rated shows and has remained one of the network’s most popular series since. Family Guy has been nominated for twelve Primetime Emmy Awards and eleven Annie Awards, and has won three of each. In 2009, it was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, making it the first animated series in television history to be nominated for the award. The show has also spawned several spin-offs, including The Cleveland Show, American Dad!, and a forthcoming series featuring the Griffins’ talking baby, Stewie.
