The archive portrait combines a gold-and-orange face with blue outlines, repeated hair ribbons and leaf-like shapes. Its effect is closer to layered colored drawing than to a literal optical prism.
Build the visual structure
Choose a small set of contours to echo: the outer hair shape, a shoulder or the edge of a petal. Offset the repetitions slightly and reduce their contrast as they move away from the main form. If every edge receives equal treatment, the subject can disappear into the decoration.
Give each color a structural role. One color can hold the primary contour while another marks the displaced echo. Avoid describing the image as physically accurate refraction unless its optics have been modeled; this is a compositional method inspired by color separation, not a scientific demonstration.
A focused studio exercise
Draw a leaf with one primary contour and two offset echoes. Vary only the distance between them to discover when the echoes enrich the shape and when they look like accidental misregistration.
Compare the studies at the same size and save the chosen prompt or process settings with each result. Keep the subject and viewing angle fixed during this test so the effect of the changed variable stays visible.
