Detailed Description

Andy Warhol was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He was born in Pittsburgh in 1928 and died in New York in 1987. Warhol was a leading figure in the pop art movement that emerged in the late 1950s. Some of Warhol’s most famous paintings include the Campbell’s Soup Cans and the Marilyn Diptych. He was also well-known for his work with silkscreening and for his association with the Factory, his New York City studio. In addition to his paintings, Warhol was also a prolific filmmaker and author. He directed films such as Chelsea Girls and Eat. He also wrote books including The Philosophy of Andy Warhol and Popism: The Warhol Sixties. Warhol’s work continues to be hugely popular and influential, more than three decades after his death.
