Andy Warhol was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He was born in Pittsburgh in 1928 and died in New York in 1987. Warhol was a leading figure in the pop art movement that emerged in the late 1950s. Some of Warhol’s most famous paintings include the Campbell’s Soup Cans and the Marilyn Diptych. He was also well-known for his work with silkscreening and for his association with the Factory, his New York City studio. In addition to his paintings, Warhol was also a prolific filmmaker and author. He directed films such as Chelsea Girls and Eat. He also wrote books including The Philosophy of Andy Warhol and Popism: The Warhol Sixties. Warhol’s work continues to be hugely popular and influential, more than three decades after his death.

1. Andy Warhol was born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 2. His parents were immigrants from Czechoslovakia. 3. Warhol's father worked in a coal mine, and his mother was a homemaker. 4. Warhol was the youngest of three children. 5. He had two older brothers, Paul and John. 6. Warhol contracted syphilis from his mother at birth, which caused him to have health problems throughout his life. 7. He attended public schools in Pittsburgh, and graduated from Schenley High School in 1945. 8. Warhol enrolled in the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in Pittsburgh in 1949. 9. He studied commercial art, and was particularly interested in design and advertising. 10. Warhol graduated from Carnegie Tech in 1953. 11. After graduation, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in art. 12. Warhol began his career as a commercial artist, working as a freelance illustrator for magazines and advertising agencies. 13. In the early 1960s, he began to experiment with pop art, using everyday objects as subjects for his paintings. 14. Warhol's work was first exhibited in 1962, in a show at the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles. 15. His work was also shown at the New York State Pavilion at the 1964 World's Fair. 16. In 1964, Warhol had his first solo show at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York. 17. His work was also shown at the Venice Biennale in 1964. 18. In 1965, Warhol made his first film, "Sleep." 19. Warhol's other films include "Empire" (1964), " Chelsea Girls" (1966), and "L'Amour" (1973). 20. Warhol died of complications from surgery on February 22, 1987, at the age of 58.
