Detailed Description

In the early 1920s, a new artistic movement was born in France. Yves Tanguy and De Chiroco were the leading artists of this movement, which came to be known as Surrealism. Surrealism was a response to the horrors of World War I, and its goal was to tap into the subconscious mind in order to create art that was dreamlike and irrational. Tanguy and De Chiroco were both masters of this style, and their paintings still have the power to shock and surprise today. Some of the most famous Surrealist paintings include Tanguy’s “The Persistence of Memory” and De Chiroco’s “The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters”. These works, and others like them, continue to challenge our notions of what art can be.
