THE AOI FIELD GUIDE · LOOK CLOSER, MAKE SOMETHING

Velvet Signal Fields

AOI creative concept · Night and luminous space

Place a few luminous signals inside a broad velvet-like darkness, with each signal defined by a different edge quality.

An AOI creative concept, not an established historical movement.

A closer look

Black plum, muted red and pale cyan; light-absorbing velvet texture. The focal scene: three differently edged luminous marks in a dark field.

Concentrate the light

Place a few luminous signals inside a broad velvet-like darkness, with each signal defined by a different edge quality. A sharp bar, a soft disc and a broken line should establish a conversation across the field without becoming interface symbols.

Build the quiet scene

Use a wide dark rectangle with a small soft red disc near the bottom and a narrow cyan bar high at the right. Add one interrupted pale line that approaches neither directly. Let the surface absorb most light, with only a slight nap visible near the disc. Preserve generous distances between all three elements.

Resist the extra glow

Adding more signals usually weakens the tension. Check whether the empty field has a directional pull before decorating it. Avoid readable icons, warnings or status labels; these are abstract visual events, not a functioning control panel.

Technique notes

Make the signals nearly monochrome and distinguish them through softness and interruption alone, keeping the same asymmetric spacing.

When prompting an image model, spell out the rule and visible relationships. The invented style name alone is not a reliable instruction. Compare outputs against the critique above and revise the specific failed relationship.

The prompt workshop

Original creative exercises. These prompts create new illustrations, not documentary evidence.

Start with the defining rule

Create an original illustration of three differently edged luminous marks in a dark field. Place a few luminous signals inside a broad velvet-like darkness, with each signal defined by a different edge quality. A sharp bar, a soft disc and a broken line should establish a conversation across the field without becoming interface symbols. Use black plum, muted red and pale cyan; light-absorbing velvet texture. Keep the composition readable, with a clear focal area and quiet surrounding space. No lettering, signatures or watermark.

Build the fuller composition

Create an original Velvet Signal Fields composition. Use a wide dark rectangle with a small soft red disc near the bottom and a narrow cyan bar high at the right. Add one interrupted pale line that approaches neither directly. Let the surface absorb most light, with only a slight nap visible near the disc. Preserve generous distances between all three elements. Use black plum, muted red and pale cyan; light-absorbing velvet texture. Preserve the defining constraint: Place a few luminous signals inside a broad velvet-like darkness, with each signal defined by a different edge quality. Avoid decorative clutter, readable text and watermarks.

Try a deliberate variation

Create an experimental illustration based on this rule: Place a few luminous signals inside a broad velvet-like darkness, with each signal defined by a different edge quality. A sharp bar, a soft disc and a broken line should establish a conversation across the field without becoming interface symbols. Variation: Make the signals nearly monochrome and distinguish them through softness and interruption alone, keeping the same asymmetric spacing. Use black plum, muted red and pale cyan; light-absorbing velvet texture. Make the changed relationship unmistakable while keeping supporting details restrained. No captions, signatures or watermark.
