Detailed Description
Claymation is a type of animation that uses clay figures. It is a very old type of animation, dating back to the early 1900s. One of the first claymation films was “The Sculptor’s Nightmare” (1908). Claymation became popular in the 1960s with the release of “Gumby”, which was the first claymation TV show. Other popular claymation shows include “Wallace and Gromit” and “Chicken Run”. Claymation is a very labor-intensive process. Each frame of animation is created by hand, using clay figures and sets. This makes claymation a very slow and expensive process. Despite the high cost, claymation has a very unique look that can be very appealing. Claymation is often used for stop-motion commercials and music videos. Some famous examples include Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” music video and the California Raisins commercials.
