American impressionism is a style of painting that began in the late 1800s. The style is characterized by its use of light and color to create an illusion of movement. American impressionists were influenced by the work of French impressionists such as Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Some of the most famous American impressionist painters include Mary Cassatt, John Singer Sargent, and Childe Hassam. Cassatt is known for her paintings of women and children, while Sargent is known for his portraits of wealthy Americans. Hassam is known for his paintings of New York City. One of the most famous American impressionist paintings is “A Sunday on La Grande Jatte” by Georges Seurat. The painting depicts people relaxing on an island in the Seine River. American impressionism was a popular style of painting in the late 1800s and early 1900s. However, the style fell out of favor after World War I.
