Keep the hourglass legible

The reviewed AOI sculpture has a simple two-bowl silhouette joined by a narrow opening. The upper velvet basin appears to hold a mound of gold sand, which falls in a bright thread into the lower basin. This is a visual metaphor, not a functional timepiece: open fabric bowls and an unsupported stream belong to imaginative installation art. The familiar hourglass structure lets the strange material choice read immediately.

Make the upper and lower bowls related but not identical. Their rims can fold like dunes while the inside stays dark enough to frame the stream. Place the sand at the exact narrow passage and give the falling grains a coherent direction. If the gold becomes a solid glowing column, it loses its granular character; if the bowls look rigid and shiny, the velvet premise weakens.

Let light measure the interval

Use directional light to reveal the fabric pile only along selected curves, and let the sand provide the strongest warm highlight. The collage compares velvet texture, a pedestal sculpture and a tall gallery clock. The eye should find the thin passage first and then explore the broad quiet bowls. Time is suggested through visible movement, with no numerical dial needed.
