Infrablue

AOI creative concept · Remapped blue relationships

Infrablue is developed here as an AOI color concept: familiar places are remapped into luminous cyan, cobalt and deep ultramarine, with an occasional warm accent. The visual surprise comes from new relationships between foliage, water and stone—not simply putting a blue filter over everything.

A closer look

Pale blue foliage against dark water, cobalt midtones, porcelain highlights and a small copper or amber accent; recognizable forms with deliberately unfamiliar color relationships.

An imaginative palette with a real connection

NASA’s explanation of false-color imagery shows how measured wavelength bands can be assigned to visible colors. That process supplies a useful idea for art: a color can represent a chosen relationship rather than ordinary eyesight. It does not mean that infrared is inherently blue.

Infrablue here is an editorial creative framework, not an established historical movement or a claim of scientific capture. The name has also been used by an unrelated Urban Lab Torino project; AOI does not claim to have invented the word. The illustrations on this page contain no measured infrared data.

Three rules for a recognizable Infrablue scene

Separate the materials. Make foliage pale cyan, water nearly ultramarine-black and stone a middle porcelain blue. If every material receives the same blue treatment, much of the effect disappears. Keep the subject recognizable through shape and relative brightness.

Reserve the lightest blue for a connected passage that leads through the picture: a tree canopy, riverbank or sequence of arches. Let broad shadows remain quiet. A single copper boat or amber window can become a visual anchor, but a field of orange accents turns the image into a different color scheme.

Try a remapped garden

Begin with a simple river bend, one tree and a small landing. Decide the material-to-color mapping before adding detail. Compare a pale tree against dark water with the reverse arrangement; choose the version that makes the route through the scene clearest.

This framework can also suit an invented courtyard, a botanical close-up or a restrained editorial portrait. In AI prompts specify the mapping, focal point and lighting rather than relying on the name alone. Describe the result as an imaginative color interpretation; a convincing photograph-like surface does not make it remote-sensing evidence.

A small poetic detour

Original words from the AOI studio.

Poetry

The garden changes how it glows,
A blue no ordinary leaf knows.
One copper boat, one quiet stream;
The daylight borrows from a dream.

The prompt workshop

Original creative exercises. These prompts create new illustrations, not documentary evidence.

Begin with a river

Original Infrablue garden illustration: pale cyan tree canopy over a deep ultramarine river, cobalt undergrowth and porcelain-blue steps, one restrained copper boat. Recognizable natural shapes, deliberate material-specific false-color palette, quiet negative space. Creative color interpretation, not scientific infrared capture. No text.

Explore architecture

An invented Infrablue courtyard with porcelain-blue arches, dark navy pool and luminous pale-cyan plants, a single amber window, clear perspective and refined photographic detail. Different materials retain different values; avoid a uniform blue filter. No logos or lettering.

Reduce the subject

Infrablue botanical close-up of one leaf, cyan branching veins over cobalt tissue against a deep blue empty background, a small copper-colored seed at its edge. Elegant original color-remapped illustration, not a spectral measurement or species-identification plate. No labels.

A smile from the studio

Jokes

The tree asked for a color correction. We gave it a new career in cobalt.
The river is feeling blue, but its composition is excellent.
