Album-cover design direction
A dark album cover can be atmospheric without losing its subject. Separation among near-black values is often more important than adding bright effects.

A closer look
Begin with a readable silhouette and decide where the smallest light belongs.
Understanding the subject
Dark album-cover design is a visual direction, not a genre of music or a historical movement in itself. Low-key imagery may suggest intimacy, tension or spaciousness depending on subject and composition. A nearly black square can work, but it still needs intentional relationships among shape, texture and any typography. Screen brightness and small display size can hide details that seem obvious in a large working file.
AOI looking and making workshop
Begin with a readable silhouette and decide where the smallest light belongs. Separate overlapping forms with subtle value or temperature changes rather than outlining everything. Test the cover at thumbnail size and under reduced brightness. If a title will be added, reserve enough contrast for it without turning the entire background gray. In generated work, inspect shadow areas for accidental muddy texture. One restrained reflection or edge can create a stronger focal point than many scattered sparks, especially when the rest of the image remains quiet.
The prompt workshop
Original creative exercises. These prompts create new illustrations, not documentary evidence.
A shape in darkness
Design an original square album-cover concept with a dark sculptural form emerging from charcoal space, one narrow cool edge light and subtle warm shadow separation. Keep it readable at small size, without text.
Low-key atmosphere
Create an original album-cover image of an empty midnight shoreline, a small silver reflection and deep blue-black masses. Use a clear horizon and leave quiet space for later typography.
Almost black
Design an original near-monochrome cover of layered matte-black paper with one tiny copper tear. Use careful shadow differences and strong large shapes rather than noisy texture or decorative glow.
