Inventory Island Plans

AOI creative concept · Maps and invented diagrams

Arrange a handful of everyday objects as an imagined archipelago, using their cast shadows as coastlines.

An AOI creative concept, not an established historical movement.

Simple objects, geometric shapes and connecting marks arranged as a diagram

A closer look

Warm white, graphite and a restrained blue route; ordinary objects and long shadows. The focal scene: a spoon, spool and box casting island-like shadows.

An invented diagram

Arrange a handful of everyday objects as an imagined archipelago, using their cast shadows as coastlines. The objects remain recognizable, while a few diagrammatic connections suggest travel between them without turning the scene into a real map.

Organize the route

Place a spoon, a spool and a small box on a pale surface viewed from above. Light them low enough that their shadows become broad islands. Draw one thin dashed route between the shadows, not between the objects themselves. Leave generous water-like blank space and omit place names.

Check the internal logic

If the objects are reduced to generic blobs, the scale reversal loses its charm. Preserve a recognizable handle, hole and lid. Keep route marks subordinate to the shadows, and avoid adding enough symbols to resemble a functional navigation chart.

Technique notes

Use translucent objects whose faint shadows form uncertain coastlines, making one solid dark object the only clearly bounded island.

When prompting an image model, spell out the rule and visible relationships. The invented style name alone is not a reliable instruction. Compare outputs against the critique above and revise the specific failed relationship.

The prompt workshop

Original creative exercises. These prompts create new illustrations, not documentary evidence.

Start with the defining rule

Create an original illustration of a spoon, spool and box casting island-like shadows. Arrange a handful of everyday objects as an imagined archipelago, using their cast shadows as coastlines. The objects remain recognizable, while a few diagrammatic connections suggest travel between them without turning the scene into a real map. Use warm white, graphite and a restrained blue route; ordinary objects and long shadows. Keep the composition readable, with a clear focal area and quiet surrounding space. No lettering, signatures or watermark.

Build the fuller composition

Create an original Inventory Island Plans composition. Place a spoon, a spool and a small box on a pale surface viewed from above. Light them low enough that their shadows become broad islands. Draw one thin dashed route between the shadows, not between the objects themselves. Leave generous water-like blank space and omit place names. Use warm white, graphite and a restrained blue route; ordinary objects and long shadows. Preserve the defining constraint: Arrange a handful of everyday objects as an imagined archipelago, using their cast shadows as coastlines. Avoid decorative clutter, readable text and watermarks.

Try a deliberate variation

Create an experimental illustration based on this rule: Arrange a handful of everyday objects as an imagined archipelago, using their cast shadows as coastlines. The objects remain recognizable, while a few diagrammatic connections suggest travel between them without turning the scene into a real map. Variation: Use translucent objects whose faint shadows form uncertain coastlines, making one solid dark object the only clearly bounded island. Use warm white, graphite and a restrained blue route; ordinary objects and long shadows. Make the changed relationship unmistakable while keeping supporting details restrained. No captions, signatures or watermark.
